Gilli says "All my paintings in this exhibition are about childhood and growing up. It is about those moments of spontaneous recollection that dive into your mind every now and then.
There's a hexagonal painting in this exhibition which reflects the very nature of being a baby, and the christening gown. It's indicitave of growing in a unique garden of flowers. I call this piece 'The Essence of Being'.
Another painting is named 'The Yan and Yang of Youth'. There are always two sides to everything. 'Peeking Through the Curtains' is representative of the fact that as we grow, we are seemingly always watching behind curtains. This piece has a cultural side to it. We, as humans, often hide our identities behind barriers.
The feature painting is titled 'The Secret Garden'. I remember when we were children, we would play hide and seek or pretend that something is behind the wall of flowers. It is a provoking piece that inspires childhood delights.
'Metamorphosis' is about a child who is changing as she grows into an adult. It is the memories that are created as she grows into her new skin to become an adult."
