'INSPIRATIONAL WATERCOLOURS' - Joan Hay
Joan Hay, a watercolour artist living in Napier says her paintings very often incorporate a number of techniques unique to the medium of watercolour and she enjoys using a variety of tools which differ to that of the brush to create her captivating pieces.
Joan also says "Watercolours lend themselves to freedom and movement of the medium and it’s exciting allowing the paint to combine with water and flow across the paper. This allows the painting to develop as I work, without necessarily having a finished look in mind. I very often 'go with the flow' and enjoy the creation of the painting as it morphs into something identifiable. Skies and water in particular lend themselves to this process.
I have been painting for approximately 10 years and over this time have been fortunate to win Awards for my work through exhibiting with Art Hawkes Bay and Napier Art Club .
I initially joined watercolour classes but went on to develop my own style and techniques. I enjoy painting landscapes and seascapes in particular and have been fortunate to showcase my work in several exhibitions and galleries selling to local collectors and people from out of town and overseas.
I’m currently working on a new project with my watercolour paintings – stitching watercolour artworks; creating something dynamic and quite a different look for a watercolour piece.
Watercolour painting can indeed be challenging but never boring!"
