Artist Profile

Charles Bradley

I was a student at Hastings Boys High school from 1963 to 1967 and Roy Dunningham was my art teacher from my forth form year.

His teaching was inspirational, as was the personal example he set for all students.  I went on from there and studied art at tertiary level at The Canterbury School of Fine Arts and later on, directly inspired by Roy, I made a career as an art educator at secondary level.

Since retiring from teaching I have rediscovered both the time and the energy to explore my own work. I often sense Roy on my shoulder encouraging me in this creative process.

Description: [Acrylic Paint, PVA, Tissue on Canvas]

Connection to Roy: I was a student at Hastings Boys High School from 1963 to 1967 and Roy was my art teacher from my forth form year.

His teaching was inspirational, as was the personal example he set for all students.

I went on from there and studied art at tertiary level at The Canterbury School of Fine Arts and later on, directly inspired by Roy, I made a career as an art educator at secondary level.

Roy was a personal friend. We socialised and spent time tramping in the South Island together and I enjoyed his hospitality in his beloved 'block' in the foothills of The Ruahines.

Since retiring from teaching I have rediscovered both the time and the energy to explore my own work. I often sense Roy on my shoulder encouraging me in this creative process.
