Auaka Tumutumu Te Kura i Awarua

Presented by Te Kura i Awarua Rangahau Māori Research Centre – EIT | Te Pūkenga, we are thrilled to be hosting Auaka Tumutumu over the next two weeks at the Hastings Community Arts Centre.

This extraordinary showcase features precious taonga and contemporary Māori art from Ngāti Kahungunu, Toihoukura, Te Ūranga Waka, and IDEAschool.

The programme includes a three day symposium that will delve into archives and Taonga Māori, particularly emphasising Ngāti Kahungunu treasures. This is a unique opportunity to immerse ourselves in our community’s cultural richness and heritage.

Arts Inc. Heretaunga’s Pou Ārahi, Howard McGuire, says: “We are humbled and privileged that such a significant kaupapa for Ngāti Kahungunu makes history at the Hastings Community Arts Centre. It is an honour we deeply cherish, and we eagerly await the enriching experience that lies ahead for our entire community.”

This is a significant event which we are honoured to share with our community. On behalf of Te Kura i Awarua Rangahau Māori Research Centre – EIT | Te Pūkenga, our exhibition and gallery team warmly extend the invitation to enter and explore the cultural treasures and heritage of the Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.

“Nau mai, piki mai ki te kuwaha o ngā taonga o Ngāti Kahungunu”
“Welcome, come forth to the gateway of the treasures of Ngāti Kahungunu.”
