We are delighted to feature the superb wines of the Corban Family winemakers at our openings and special events as they have been sponsoring Arts inc Heretaunga  for many years.

Stories of wine, place and people. Particularly of people and the ways they have brought and continue to bring, life, colour, passion and heritage to our winery between the ridges in Hawke's Bay. They are stories that continue to grow and to change. Stories that we will do our best to continue to capture here.... Our history.

The Ngatarawa  history encompasses not only the story of the Corban family and its rich heritage in the New Zealand wine industry, but also those of the early Ngatarawa landholders. It takes in the early history of the land and the enterprise of the early settlers who transformed Hawke's Bay into an important centre for New Zealand horse racing.

More recently, it involves the Glazebrook family and their role in pioneering viticulture on the western edge of the Heretaunga Plains in Hawke's Bay.

Today cousins Alwyn and Brian continue the heritage and craft of the Corban family of winemakers at Ngatarawa in Hawke's Bay.

Ngatarawa - pronounced Naa-Taa-Ra-Wa - means 'between the ridges' in Maori. Ngatarawa is located on the ancient Ngaruroro riverbed on the western edge of Hawke's Bay Heretaunga Plains. With the river changing its course 10,000 years ago the land has been shaped by subsequent river flooding and the massive volcanic eruption of Lake Taupo 1800 years ago.

The area, known as the Bridge Pa Triangle, has long been recognised as one of the best for grape growing. Ngatarawa's soil is free draining, and this, combined with the area's warm, dry climate, makes for an ideal grapegrowing locality.

Ngatarawa is among New Zealand's most picturesque wineries. Driving down the long tree-lined driveway, visitors discover the historic racing stables, large lily pond and timeless ambience. Coupled with our warm hospitality and premium wines it makes for a memorable visit.
